# Turn a rough idea into a website brief AI can build from

Original 5HO practice material. Fictional example. Reviewed 5 October 2026.

## Useful result

You'll finish with a website brief with an audience, action and acceptance checks.

“Build me a modern website” leaves almost every important choice open. Start with what a visitor needs to do. Then give the builder words, structure and a way to test the result.

## Set up

Allow 25 minutes for the brief. Use a text chat and the sample business. You do not need a domain or a website subscription to write the specification.

## Practice input

Fictional site: neighbourhood repair workshop. Main action: request an appointment. Sections: services, opening hours, what to bring, contact. Unknown: appointment availability. No online payment. Brand: calm, clear, forest green and pale blue.

## Do the task

1. Choose one main visitor action and list the information required before it.
2. Draft page sections and real example copy, marking missing business facts.
3. Write acceptance checks for mobile layout, form feedback and keyboard access.

## Prompt

Write a one-page website brief for this workshop. Include audience, primary action, content sections, supplied brand direction, unknown facts and acceptance checks. Do not invent hours, reviews or booking availability.

## Refine

Make the contact form’s backend an explicit requirement. A button that displays success without sending a request does not pass.

## Expected checks

The brief should distinguish requesting an appointment from confirming one. Unknown opening hours and availability must remain content gaps.

## Save

Save website-brief.md with the content still needed from the owner. Use it to review the first build before discussing extra pages.
